Alexander Technique with Irma Konrad
The Alexander Technique is a highly effective method used to release tension responsible for discomfort due to improper posture, overuse, or physical trauma. By putting into practice the principles of the Alexander Technique, participants learn how to perform in a balanced and coordinated manner. This technique in an extremely useful tool in teaching any instrument.

Composition in the Teaching Studio
Composer and educator Maryanne Rumancik will discuss ways to incorporate composition in the teaching studio. She will demonstrate the benefit of using composition to help students learn the advantages to theory and proper musical notation.

The Art of Accompaniment
Veteran Winnipeg pianist Michael Oike will discuss the finer aspects of piano accompanying. He will discuss breathing with the performer, rehearsal techniques, and the differences between accompanying for voice and accompanying for strings and winds. Local professional musicians will be on hand to help Michael demonstrate the aspects discussed in the seminar.

Changes to the RCM Piano Syllabus- Repertoire and Technique
Local Pianist and RCM Examiner Marlene Pauls-Laucht will be on hand to talk about the recent changes to the RCM Piano Syllabus. She will discuss why these changes occurred and also answer questions that any piano teacher might have about the how this affects students examinations.

New Repertoire for the Beginner and Intermediate Piano Student
Tired of teaching Clementi? In this session Carol Whitlaw will bring to light new compositions that can be incorporated in to the piano teaching studio. Increase your students’ interest in New Music while at the same time improving their technique, tone and rhythm.

Taxes Taxes Taxes!!- Tax Rules for the Private Music Teacher
The Conservatory has the delight to welcome tax specialist Carol Hadewich for this session! Carol is a tax specialist with Revenue Canada and gives presentations for self-employed individuals. Find out what exactly you can write off on your taxes. Learn about GST law, and tax shelters that that the music teacher should be investing in. If you want to pay less next year or even get money back this would be the session for you!
